Why working alone at night is for me
Without giving away too much personal information, I would like to give people a hint as to why I like working alone at home. Imagine clothing and fabrics feeling intensely irritating, prickly, or even painful, causing overwhelming dislike or strong reactions. And, imagine that you can’t even make your own family aware of this problem. This is the reality for people with Tactile Hypersensitivity, also called Tactile Defensiveness. It’s a sensory processing disorder where the brain registers touch with extreme sensitivity. Clothing tags, certain textures, or even light hugs can feel unbearable. People might avoid specific clothes, feel anxious in crowds, or struggle with physical affection. The hardest thing for me is that nobody seems to care or wants to listen. It feels like they think I am trying to offend them when I don’t want to join them in gatherings.
