Online trash talk is a good thing compared to face to face trash talking

Online trash talking prevents crimes in the heat of the moment. When you post something online all it talks is 1 person to raise a stink about it and all her followers to like what was said. Online trash talk can act as a safety release valve for tension that hopefully mitigates the chances of escalation in the real world. Any time I post something that is new original unique offers a completely new viewpoint, I know I will get a herd of sheep followers who will try to silence me wish offering even 1 complete sentence to explain their side of the story. The relative anonymity and distance of the internet can provide a buffer zone, allowing people to vent frustrations or engage in verbal jousting without the immediate threat of physical confrontation. In contrast, face-to-face trash-talking can be much more incendiary as emotions run high in the heat of the moment. Serious permanent physical damage can happen. The bible teaches us to be humble and meek for a reason. When pride and ego are stirred up, the boundaries of civility may be crossed and leads to aggression or violence. However, it’s important to remember that online spaces are not immune from harmful behavior. Cyberbullying and hate speech can have devastating consequences, and the mere fact that the trash talk is happening online doesn’t eliminate its potential to cause very real pain, reputational damage, and even incite offline repercussions.

I love the internet for it’s freedom of speech. I hate the real world for the freedom of violence. Hopefully, some day there will be no more triggers and only people who laugh when some idiot like myself says something stupid.
